If you aren’t already aware, most high school students end up taking the SAT or the ACT at least once during their high school career. Most four year colleges, and even some two year colleges, require SAT or ACT scores. I just wanted to give you all some general information about where to sign up for these tests, as well as some additional resources you might want to look into in case finding the money to take each test is proving difficult.

While the SAT and ACT are slightly different (there is a great explanation of the differences here), both tests will usually yield similar results for students. However, I still recommend students to take both tests if possible. If you only plan on taking one test, do your best to utilize the resources at your school. For example, students in the state of Georgia take the SAT more than the ACT because more programs in the school offer SAT prep to students. See if your school has any prep classes you can take during or after school!

Students can register for each test at the websites below:

SAT – http://www.collegeboard.org

ACT – http://www.actstudent.org

The cost of both tests (including the writing portions) comes in at a little under 50 dollars. If the cost of taking either test once or more than once is a burden to you and your family, please talk to your counselor at school about fee waivers for each test. If you are eligible for free or reduced lunch at your school, you are eligible to have the fee of both tests waived! Students with free or reduced lunch are eligible for two SAT and two ACT test waivers during the entirety of their high school career, so don’t pass up this resource if you are eligible.

Thanks for reading!
